Our ceremony point overlooking the Patapsco river is a beautiful place to host your ceremony, along with the Manor Home, circa 1810, which is an addition built by James and Andrew Ellicott Jr. onto the original Tavern, circa 1744. The Manor Home is comprised of three professionally decorated floors with covered porches overlooking the gardens. The third floor is a three-room Bridal Suite with a dress fitting room, two sitting rooms and a full bathroom. A separate Groom’s Room is provided on the second floor for the gentlemen, with a private patio and staircase leading to the bar.
The flow of the facility offers three separate areas for you and your guests to enjoy throughout the function:
Our Outdoor Ceremony Point has a dramatic entrance of a grand pergola with hanging flower baskets. The brick seating area, complete with a center aisle, is slightly downhill giving an impression of stadium seating, and leads to the main point overlooking the Patapsco River. One of the oldest and largest sycamore trees in Howard County (nominated for Howard County Champion in 2011) along with other surrounding trees provides an excellent canopy. During inclement weather we host the ceremony indoors in our reception tent.
Cocktails & Hors D’oeuvres
Our extensive Hors D’oeuvres list offers a range of styles and pricing to allow for full customization of your menu, theme, and style. Whether stationed or passed, our staff creates displays that please the eye as well as the palate!
We serve cocktails and hors d’oeuvres in the Manor Home following the ceremony. A Colonial Revival porch leads you to the main entrance featuring fine transitional Federal/Green Revival detail consisting of the original double leaf doors. The interior rooms have been lovingly restored from colonial days, each by an individual designer, thereby giving The Elkridge Furnace Inn both a uniqueness and richness to the Manor Home.
The internal architecture provides a glimpse of Maryland history. The woodwork, mantelpieces and stairway showcase the craftsmanship of the 18th and 19th centuries. The stairway is graced with tiger maple spindles and a walnut cap rail. The floors are original and are constructed of longleaf yellow pine. Dogwood motifs in the moldings can be viewed throughout the house and reflect a popular colonial style also seen in the U.S. Capitol.
The Reception takes place in the Tent. The Tent (39′ x 81′) can be open or fully enclosed and is always equipped with chandeliers, ceiling fans, heating, and air conditioning units. We have a wooden-panel parquet dance floor (18′ x 21′) on site as well. Extensions are rented to cover the surrounding patios when more space is needed.
Chef Owned & Operated
Executive Chef Daniel Wecker owns and operates The Elkridge Furnace Inn. Chef Wecker has been cooking professionally for over 40 years and will directly work with the bride and groom to create a fully customized menu.
Our rental rates begin at four hours with the option to purchase additional time. There is an additional half hour of time added to the event when the ceremony is hosted at EFI. Specific rental rates vary based on day, time of day and month. On Fridays and Sundays only one function is hosted which allows for flexibility in the time frame. We host two events on Saturdays; one in the afternoon and one in the evening. Saturday daytime functions must end no later than 4:00pm and Saturday evening functions can begin as early as 6:00pm. We host only one wedding at a time.
Full Service Venue & Catering
EFI is a full service facility including set-up and breakdown (some exceptions apply). The rental rate includes all items such as tables, chairs, house-stocked linens, china, glassware, flatware, dance floor, etc. We do not charge individually for such items; we are happy to provide you with the equipment we have. Six to eight months prior to the event date is when we schedule planning meetings; with no additional charge per planning meeting. The same person you plan with will be making sure everything happens correctly on your big day!
We tailor all aspects of every function hosted to your specific wants and needs. We prepare all food in-house, allowing total flexibility and limitless options. The chefs use everything that is grown from season to season from our organic gardens of various leafy greens, herbs, and vegetables. We do all of the butchering and charcuterie in-house, as well. We often create special menus and options to accommodate guests with specific food allergies and/or dietary restrictions including vegetarian, vegan, gluten- and/or lactose-free. Kosher-style menus can be created, however we are not a kosher kitchen, and can not accommodate kosher guests. We do allow kosher vendors to bring kosher meals for kosher guests. Our pastry department can provide a wedding cake or any other kind of dessert. Executive Pastry Chef Genelle Balan makes all desserts from scratch, and in-house.
